Product Overview
A shaft may look straightforward until the bearing journal, shoulder, thread and drive slot all need to work together. Sunmy manufactures custom CNC turned stepped shafts to customer drawings, combining multiple outside diameters with features such as external threads, milled keyways, radial cross-holes and drilled end bores. This example combines these features along a relatively slender shaft.
We support prototype and repeat-production quantities, with CNC turning, live-tool milling and secondary finishing selected around the actual drawing. Blind and through-bore designs can both be reviewed; bore depth, material grade, fits and required runout are confirmed during engineering review before production.
Typical Applications & Industries:
● Industrial Automation & Robotics: Custom actuator shafts, rotary drive interfaces and positioning mechanisms.
● Motors & Power Transmission: Transmission shafts, drive couplings and geared assemblies.
● Industrial Equipment: Packaging lines, material-handling systems and printing machinery.
Manufacturing & Process Insights
● CNC Turning & Turn-Mill: Planning for datum control, workholding, tool access and burr removal.
● End-Bore & Deep-Hole: Precise drilling and boring with high length-to-diameter ratio review.
● Threads, Keyways & Cross-Holes: Machining to defined locations with strict gauging.
● Critical Finishing: Cylindrical grinding or surface roughness optimization to meet tight tolerance callouts.

Technical FAQ
Q1: What should I include in an RFQ?
A: A STEP model and a 2D drawing. Please include material grade, dimensions, tolerances, and quantities.
Q2: How do you control concentricity and runout?
A: We identify functional datums first and build our machining and inspection strategy around those critical surfaces.
Q3: Can you make a prototype?
A: Yes, we support one-off prototypes to verify fit and assembly before moving to serial production.
Q4: What stainless grades are available?
A: We commonly work with 303, 304, 316L, and 17-4PH, plus other alloys upon request.
Q5: How is lead time determined?
A: Based on material availability, geometry complexity, and specific finishing requirements identified in your drawing.
